ABOUT
Homestyle Cooking. Natural. Organic.
As a curious nine year old, Charles would help his mother, Judy, by stenciling dough with cookie cutters. Over the next couple of years, he would ask for more tasks around the kitchen and soon realized his passion for preparing dishes with his best friend. The two soon found that this hobby enabled them to bond while enjoying doing what they loved most together - cooking.
Not long thereafter, the Mother-Son team opened up one of the first breakfast, brunch, and lunch cafes on Chestnut Street. Today, 27 years later, Judy's Cafe has welcomed San Franciscans city wide, as well as being a tourist favorite, generously preparing homestyle cooking with natural & organic products.
If you are a local, you are familiar with the positive smiling face that stands in front of Judy's Cafe everyday, smiling to passerbies and greeting locals that have lived in the neighborhood for over forty years. He'll remember your name and make you feel special every time you walk by - it's the Charles Bain way. Humbly, he says, "I can only hope that every individual will pay it forward and recognize the next person."
Charles has touched many people all over the city, feeding the homeless and the needy a five course meal three times a week through the non-profit organization Curry Without Worry: http://www.currywithoutworry.org.
It's no wonder Mayor Willie Brown declared July 10, 2001 as Charles Bain day...
